Pillow menus are one thing, but how clean is your hotel mattress? 19-Jun-2017
With 5 and 6 star hotel pillow menus offering guests everything from duck down, silk covered, herbal scented pillows to ‘anti snoring’ pillows, hotel beds have become big business. Many luxury hotels are even taking the step of trade marking their beds...promising guests the ultimate night’s sleep.
Let’s face it...one of the joys of staying in a hotel is a divine Queen or King size bed on which to rest our weary heads... if only for a night or two. Pillow menus are one thing, but has anyone considered how clean their mattress is? Sure, most decent hotels use mattress protectors and obviously the frequent laundering of sheets is a given, but just how hygienic is the mattress you’re sleeping on? At Hills Lodge, our 97 rooms are beautifully appointed with the latest technology and amenities. However, we are also focused on getting the basics right – giving our guests the best night’s rest possible. We’ve invested significantly in our beds....all rooms have Premium Sealy Posturepedic Beds
Yet we’ve gone a step further.
Twice a year, we engage a Mattress Cleaning company to thoroughly clean and remove dust mites, viruses, bacteria, mould spores and dead skin cells from every single mattress in the hotel. Surprisingly, we’ve found very few hotels in Sydney which invest in this process.
We started cleaning our mattresses ten years ago, when one of our Hotel Directors had the process done at home and suggested trialling it in the hotel. With 90 % of dust mites in your home inhabiting your mattresses, it is astonishing more hotels aren’t investing in regular mattress cleaning.
So how does it work?
Basically, the cleaning company uses a strong UV light to kill the dust mites, viruses, bacteria and mould spores. The next stage is to use a powerful agitating vacuum that penetrates deep into the mattress, removing dead skin cells, dust mites and their excrement. Feeling like calling a mattress cleaning company now? I know how you feel. My son is Asthmatic and allergic to dust mites. After having his mattress cleaned at home, we noticed a vast improvement in his overall health and breathing. So, rest easy when you stay with us. You may not have a choice of 7 different pillows, but you will have the ultimate in comfort and hygiene. Now that makes for a beautiful night’s sleep.
